The history of the Ponsonnas Bridge

“Le Pont de Ponsonnas”, crossing the Drac in Isère, France, has a rich history. The first suspension bridge was built in 1861, and the current bridge was inaugurated in 1941. Designed by the engineer Albert Caquot, it was initially nicknamed the “Red Bridge” before being repainted. However, in the 20th century, the bridge became a must-see site for bungee jumping, with the establishment in 1988 of the first bungee jumping center in Europe. Today, whether they are novices or initiates, thrill-seekers and bungee jumping enthusiasts come to enjoy the setting offered by the Ponsonnas bridge.
