Bungee Jumping from a Crane

Vertige Aventures travels throughout France and Europe, where our company organizes bungee jumping events from a crane.

Jump Process

When the site installation, which lasts about 1h30 to 2h00, is finished (assembly of the crane and jumping equipment, layout of the jumping area, trials and equipment tests, and final inspection of the complete installation), the jumping process can start.

Site Preparation

Timeline of the setup

  • The arrival of the various participants (organizer, Vertige monitors and crane operator) takes place approximately 2 hours before the start of the first public jump of the event.
  • The location of the crane, the site layout and the overall organization of the jumps are agreed upon by mutual consent.
  • The crane is then stabilized and deployed.
  • The height and inclination of the crane arm are checked.
  • The jumping equipment is then installed (assembly and attachment of the basket, control of the bungee cords, layout of the reception and equipment areas).
  • A safety perimeter is then marked out and materialized around the installation.
  • Then the various regulatory checks and tests are performed.
  • At this precise moment, the setup is complete, and the public jumps can begin.

Site Selection

  • The site for the crane and jumping area should be at least 30 meters long and 20 meters wide.
  • This site must be clear of any obstacles (lines, poles, trees, and other vertical elements).
  • A 10-meter radius ground operation and safety area (see standard installation diagrams) must be marked and materialized.
  • Spectators will not be able to access this safety area.
  • The equipment area should be located near the safety zone (this area is dedicated to the equipping and un-equipping of jumpers).
  • The location of the reception stand is at the discretion of the organizer.

Equipment Used

  • All equipment used by Vertige is in compliance with current standards and regulations.
  • For maximum safety, Vertige has certified all its bungee cords for 500 jumps by an official inspection laboratory (L.E.M. of APAVE). Vertige Aventures is the only company in France and Europe to guarantee such a degree of safety on all its jumping sites.

Safety Conditions

  • Before the first jump of the day, the bungee cords are tested with weights.
  • The angle between the vertical axis of the jump and the axis between the basket in high position and the crane truck must always be more than 20 degrees.
  • Jumps are made from the basket in a high position. There is no projection or catapulting of people from the ground.
  • A minimum safety margin of 5 meters will be maintained between the lowest point reached by the jumper and the ground (regardless of the jumper’s weight).
  • The weather conditions that prohibit jumps are as follows: high winds (maximum speed depending on the type of crane), storms, and extreme temperatures (below -5 to 0°C and above +40 to +45°C).
